Drugs!

Oooh the title of this post is drugs, therefore in reading this I will become cool, and whoever posting this must also be cool!  I'm not a person that does drugs regularly, at all, but I have no problem with them. (Just to clear that up)... However what I do have a problem with is people that dislike drugs without knowing anything about them!

Let's talk about cannabis, purely because of its popularity, which has helped, in my past experience, to make it something of a talking point.
Not to long ago cannabis was not only legal, but embraced! It was a major source of income for the government, offered jobs and an escape from the stress of life to civilians, its seeds are one of the most nutritious on the planet, it's a very effective pain killer, it was used to get closer to god even! Everybody was happy. However as hemp threatened the markets of chemical pain killers, cotton and timber (among others), in the early-mid 1900s it was illegalised in many places, including America and Britain, being claimed to lead to insanity and addiction, and was linked to such crimes as murder and rape.

Now, I don't know about you, but I have can't imagine myself ever wanting to rape or murder anybody while high; it is a commonly accepted fact now that it chills you out, making you damn near impossible to be angry with anybody! The government makes billions of pounds in the UK alone from tobacco, and could easily get away with far higher tax rates on cannabis (people would just be happy to be able to legally smoke it!), yet instead millions are wasted on enforcing a law that was made for reasons now known to be invalid.
But, today's rant is not about the illegality of cannabis (as you could easily be lead to believe from the last few paragraphs), heck I don't even care that much that it is illegal, but rather my reason for posting all of that was to try to change something which can easily be changed by a simple post on the internet, and that is the opinions of you, the readers! Too often is it that I come across people who are anti-weed.
A common ailment; a lack of understanding.
Whenever I encounter somebody who turns out to be against drugs (specifically cannabis, as that is most common and yet most flawed problem seemingly), I become curious, and cannot help but to inquire further. The responses I get when asking why somebody is against cannabis are often infuriating; "it's illegal for a reason", "it's bad for you", and even "I don't know, I just am". People, please try to form your own opinions based on reason and logic, rather than take those of your elders and never question them! I could talk all day on the topic, but I shall not bore you. I leave you with one simple request, that seems to be a request for you all to just be difficult throughout life, but is so much more than that. And that request is that you question everything; take nothing in life as read. Thank you for your attention.

  1. Great post! I had a close friend who was anti-weed and hated how he thinks he's better than people who do drugs, and he doesn't understand people are entitled to do whatever they want with their own bodies.
If I choose to do it, then let it be. Noone should judge me based on that alone.

  2. Well said, anybody who allows themselves to be defined by drugs needs to get it together

  3. I am not into drugs and I am proud of it, since number of people is drowning in this shit.

  4. I don't drink, smoke or do anything cool like that. But I'm perfectly fine with people doing it, it's just my choice not to. Hell, I'll even support the right for marijuana to be legalized even if I have no intention of using it.

  5. Michael, might I ask why you're proud of not doing drugs? Of course, doing them is nothing to be proud of, but is it really a big deal if you don't...?

And RC, that's the attitude I like! But, why would you choose not to, might I ask? I have a few friends with a similar attitude and most of them just say they don't feel the need to...

  6. i don't do any drugs, im proud to say. but the only one i see as "not a problem" is cannabis. because i know that nicotine, from regular a cigarette, is much more dangerous and addictive than smoking this "drug" is. i'm only not supporting its use just because its illegal in he US. if it wasn't illegal i might try it, and i'd support it whither i did or not. good blog friend :] well spoken! :]

  10. Must say I don't support all drugs (partly because I don't know enough about them to have an opinion on them), just feel that weed is better than alcohol or tobacco and they're legal!

  12. Nice post. As a.. *looks both ways*.. proponent of free use of recreational drugs I get ticked off by people who press their ideals (of non-drug use) on others.

  14. Drugs are good if you control the addiction and only do them in special ocasions. If you get caught in the web its hard to get out man. P.s. : never do coke. Will follow.

  15. Even though I don't do or like drugs, and haven't fully researched them, at the very least i don't judge people that use them.

as for the legalization of marijuana in the united states, i still have to form an opinion. However, i am for the decriminalization of marijuana at the very least (paying a fine rather than going to jail). too much taxpayer money gets wasted when someone goes to prison for only one "joint".

  16. Around here small amounts of marijuana possession are "de-criminalized". Even this was seen as a big deal at the time. All it means is that under a certain amount you get a fine and it doesn't go on your criminal record. Just enough to keep the stoners paranoid, and to keep the cops gettin' paid... But for anyone who is a modern pot smoker where it is still technically illegal, I think it is a pretty honest system.

  17. I'm against drugs in every possible way. I don't drink or smoke, but some members of my family do. And they're not your typical light smokers. Ugh, the stench.

  18. I have friends who are ABSOLUTELY against weed and every other illegal drug. That being said, they are literally alcoholics. Blows my mind...

Here in Mass, though, it was decriminalized for amounts under an ounce. There is alot of smoking on the streets and the police chief at one point actually said he has better things to do than hunt down pot users.

  19. If I were a smoker or regular drug user I would never do it around anybody opposed to it Parallel-Reality Hero! I feel sorry for you; my family are mostly smokers and it bugs me, I've never like tobacco...

I do like that a police chief said he has better things to do than hunt down pot users; rightly so, there are such bigger crimes! The police need to focus their attention elsewhere...

  20. These are some solid points.

  21. I do them during a party, but not just to make everyday life more entertaining. I think if you have to do drugs just to stay entertained you're probably better off trying to improve your social life.

    Good read.

  22. Hmmm... I do not do drugs, but I do understand why people would... Besides, there ARE medical uses for some drugs... But people need to see that some stuff just is over the top...

  23. I agree about drugs only being taken on the odd occasion; once you use them just to be entertained you begin to need them to be entertained...

  24. I don't see why cannabis is illegal when alcohol is legal. It doesn't make any sense.

  25. There's so much worse addiction then drugs in the world !

  26. You've got some good arguements!

  27. I don't think the government should really be in charge of what people put into their own bodies, as long as they're not harming anyone else.

  28. Well said Jozzy! Unfortunately it's a matter of some drug users ruining it for the rest of us though...

  29. Marijuana is a lot safer than alcohol, and the only reason why it was made illegal in the first place was xenophobia (Mexican migrant workers smoked it a lot) and it was a viable threat to the lumber industry as a replacement for wood pulp for paper

  30. I totally agree with most of the people here!

  31. Hypocrisy and the naive are in general, counterproductive.

  32. @modernb: Sorry took this long to reply, but my family from both sides suffers from alcoholism and various heart problems. I choose to avoid that fate that felled my relatives.
